groundWork Climate Learning Group

The groundWork Climate Learning group will form part of our empowerment enough as part of the reclaim your power mobilization. The learning group will be taking place in pollution hotspot, Vaal Triangle, an area so deeply monopolized and oppressed by Sasol, they have even named a city after themselves, calling it Sasolburg. groundWork will bring together 27 climate change activists from our partner frontline communities, including; Highveld, Vaal Triangle, the Karoo, Somkele, South Durban and Sekhukune. The meeting will be taking place from 16 – 19 October 2017. The aim of our meeting is to strengthen the climate response capacities of our partner organizations through climate dialogues. We will conduct a solidarity climate change tour to communities affected by flooding, and subsistence farmers affected by droughts. We will also visit community renewable energy projects and finally do a press release on the event in both local and national media. We hope to send the message that Sasolburg doesn’t belong to fossil fuel hungry, polluting Sasol, Sasolburg belongs to its people. Batho Pele – People First
